Women's day thoughts

People say, it's women's day and all. I see a lot of pictures and articles in the newspaper. They have the pictures of around 50 women, in a supplement, describing them as India's power women or something. Surprisingly,(for me, atleast) it includes Kareena Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra. How did they make it into that list? May be for Priyanka, it was the 'save our environment' campaign and all. (Or was it the bikinis? Em not very sure..) Sitting in an air conditioned room and talking about that topic really makes a difference, you know. Or is it the achievements in the field of acting is what they have considered? Wearing short skirts and dancing with the hero is real tough. That is an achievement, indeed. Apart from 'Jab we met' for Kareena and 'Fashion' for Priyanka, I can't remember any other movies in which they have made a significant contribution.

Why do we have such a day? Wikipedia says "it is a major day of global celebration of women. In different regions the focus of the celebrations ranges from general celebration of respect, appreciation and love towards women to a celebration for women's economic, political and social achievements."

Okay.. that's acceptable. So why don't we have a day for men also? Actually, men are also are subject to discrimination in certain areas. There are certain situations where women do get an advantage over men. Just as an example, consider bloggers. Girls always get more creative comments for their blogs. Really good ones.. Just like "Your writing style is enchanting. Your perspective is a different one.. can i add you in facebook?"

Anyways, happy women's day to all!
