We will miss you, Dada!!

After the Nagpur test, Sourav Ganguly, undoubtedly one of the legends of modern cricket will no more amaze us with those scintillating drives and cuts along the off side. He has never scored runs as fast as Sehwag, never been technically perfect like Dravid, and never did as many miracles as Sachin did. But he still could get in to our hearts so easily, we all rejoiced when he danced down the track and let the ball fly over the rope in an elegant manner. But just like all the Ganguly fans love him, many hate him as well.. for all those mistakes that he made in the field, the slow pace at which he scored sometimes and many other reasons. Its so easy to hate someone.. isn't it?

But let me ask you, can anyone simply forget all those that Sourav has done for Indian cricket?? Not only as a batsman, but as an agressive and positive captain also.. Sourav was the first Indian player to show a little bit of agression. Remember those times when Indian players rarely looked into the opponents' eyes and hardly gave any reply for all those sledging. But now, things have changed. And it all started with Sourav. When he took his shirt off from the Lords balcony, he was announcing that we will not bow our heads just like that. We're gonna reply in the same way.. and I wonder why everyone was making a big fuss about it. Hardly anyone said a word when andrew Flintoff took his shirt off after defeating India, that too, on the field. I will rate Lords incident as one of the greatest moments of Sourav's cricketing life.

Sourav is arguably the best captain that India has ever seen. Don't forget the fact that he was the captain when some senior players had to depart, accused of match fixing. That was too deep a wound for the people of India who love cricket more than anything else. He was the man who took Indian cricket out of that dark cave. He was a captain who supported the young players upto a large extent. Remember those days when Sehwag remained in the team even after getting out cheaply in the same fashion almost in every game. Sourav always looked towards the future.

I admit the fact that Sachin is a better batsman than Sourav. Sachin is the best in the whole world, may be the all time best also. If Sourav is 'Maharaja' , Sachin is God. But the reason why I admire Sourav is his attitude. Sourav was first selected to the oneday squad four years before his test debut at Lords. He played just a single game. In spite of his consistent performance in domestic cricket, he was thrown out and he didn't get a chance in the next four years. But he never gave up. And now, look at the way in which he came back after being written off by all.

The man who has scored maximum number of runs since his comeback couldn't get a place in the squad for Irani trophy. If it was about the fielding and fitness, Kumble,Laxman and Dravid are no better. Can any of you tell sincerely that he doesn't deserve a place in the Indian test squad looking at the way he is playing? If scoring runs when your team needs it isn't the criteria, what else could it be?? If the reason was the poor performance in the series against Sri Lanka, who all scored then? Why Sourav is being the scape goat always??

But Sourav, as always he is, never bows his head in front of anyone. He is going to depart, in a way that we will never forget, with his head held upright, letting his bat give all the reply.

"You'll never retire from our hearts, Dada !!"

I wrote this.. Because I felt like

When things simply went wrong, when I lost all the control over myself, It turned out to be the greatest crisis of my life. But still, I had faith in one God, whom I've seen with my eyes. When that support was behind me, I felt like I could face anything and defeat anything. But in a moment, everything can change. Things that u firmly believe to exist till the very end might just vanish into thin air.

Even though all this happened, I would simply like to go on believing what I did till that very moment. For that mighty power itself, I have to get over it. I always had a single aim in my life. A single destination, where I wanted to reach, so desperately. But if it seems to go farther, I can't simply sit back and curse myself.

I have to get along, for the power which I believe to be the greatest of all..

** I simply felt like writing this, I don't know why. And never ask what I meant with this..(Assuming this blog to be read by a lot of people.. hehe..) I might not be able to explain.. **

The way they think

When the power supply was not there, I started to think about the importance of electricity. I had nothing else to do, no music,no movies, couldn't read a book also. And I didn't have a more interesting topic to think about as well... I felt like dying of boredom.

What if, one day, all the sources of electricity get dried up?? At present, our world is facing an energy crisis, which might get transformed into a more horrible form in the next one or two decades. Now, I remember what I read somewhere about Greenland(Denmark) and the way in which they tried to tackle the energy crisis that they had to face in the 70's.

The embargo in 1973 by the Arab countries put them in a deep crisis. They thought of renewable energy sources and started to produce electricity from wind. In the 70's , it couldn't really make any considerable contribution but, now it supplies around 20% of the energy requirements of the whole country.

They also implemented some innovative ideas to reduce energy consumption. In the toilets of hotels, they are having a two geared flush. It can flush in two different ways depending on what you are flushing. They have motion sensors to turn on the lights only when something moves in the corridors.

It's not that we, Indians are not having such ideas. But nothing gets implemented in our country that easily!!

A brother's perspective

Yesterday, I went to Ernakulam for one of my friend's sister's wedding. The most difficult thing was to sit in the train for four and a half hours. On the way to the place, I could do nothing but sit and sleep as it was too early in the morning (for me, atleast.I don't see five 'o' clock in the morning other than in rare occassions). The function was pretty good and well managed. And of course, the feast as well.
On my way back, I was trying to see it from the point of view of a brother. When my sister got married a few months back, it was sort of a difficult experience for me.Of course, I was very happy but I could hardly imagine my sister as someone's wife. When the function was going on, I didn't have time to think, so I never did. But after all those hectic days, when all the relatives left one by one, I couldn't stop myself from sitting and pondering.
In my eyes, she was still a kid. The fights that we had together when both of our vacations did coincide and the jokes that we shared were all pretty nice to remember. But in life, there is no use being sentimental. she had to go and get settled in her life. I should've been very happy because my responsibility as a brother was getting over. Thereafter, what I had to think about was my own life and protecting my parents.
What I had to do was to overcome my emotions and to be practical which I tried, and definitely succeeded upto an extent
As the saying goes, "there are no wounds which time cannot heal"
And as it turned out to be, I was lucky since i got a brother in law who is a nice guy and who loves my sister very much.
As I reached back, I was too tired and couldn't think of anything other than going to bed.

The car that flies

In today's newspaper, I saw something regarding operation Blackhound. Now if you've started wondering what that is, let me explain it to you..
Two guys, Andy Green and Richard Noble (I am not very sure if their names spell like that or not) are trying to develope a car which can travel (or rather, fly I shall say) at a speed of more than 1000 miles per hour. They hope to make it by the end of 2009.Several universities and around three hundred private companies are also a part of the project. The car will have a jet engine and some parts similar to that of a rocket (That sounds obvious, doesn't it?).
This car will cover the length of four football courts within one second after starting the car. That means it will be faster than a bullet fired from a handgun.amazing!! isn't it?
It will achieve full speed within a time of forty seconds. The brake system will consist of two parachutes also.
Now if you are wondering who these two guys are, Let me tell you, these are the same guys who, in 1997, developed a car which had a maximum speed of 763 miles per hour.
Anyways, all the best to them.. Great dreamers achieve great things..

As always it does!!

Well.. when I started this blog, I wanted to write regularly. But things go just the opposite way I plan them to be.As always it does!!
Now, since I don't have a net connection in my room, I can't write regularly. But I hope to get one in the near future. That might change things.. hopefully..
